FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are your fees?

My fee is $200 for a 50-minute session and 10 minutes of administrative work related to your file to complete the hour.

The Psychologists' Association of Alberta recommended fee for individual therapy is $220 per session.

Do you have a reduced fee option?

Yes, I provide a limited number of reduced fee spots. If you are experiencing financial strain and my regular rate would not permit you to access counselling, please reach out and I will guide you through the process of determining a different rate. If all reduced fee spots are taken, I can place you on a waitlist.

Do you direct bill to my insurance?

No, I do not provide direct billing. I issue an electronic receipt that you may submit to your insurance after our session.

All insurance plans vary (e.g. what type of professional services are covered, yearly totals, etc.), therefore it is highly encouraged that you determine what coverage you hold before beginning counselling. If you do not have the resources to pay for therapy once your insurance coverage ends, please inform me and we can determine how to proceed within your therapeutic objectives at the time.

How do I know if we are the right fit?

Feeling like we are a good fit is an essential ingredient to an effective counselling experience. Sometimes it takes some shopping around to find someone you are comfortable with with. That’s normal.

I offer a free 15–20 minute consultation call so that you can ask any questions you may have and get a sense of what it feels like to speak with me.

If we have started the counselling process and you determine that the fit isn’t appropriate anymore, I encourage you to let me know and I can gladly make recommendations for alternate therapists or services based on what you are looking for.

If I determine that services different from what I can provide are better suited to your needs, I will share my thoughts and recommendations with you.

Do you offer services to clients outside of Alberta?

In some cases, I am able to offer services to clients in other Canadian provinces/territories.

If you reside in another province/territory and wish to start counselling with me, please reach out and I will gather the information necessary to determine if I can offer my services to you.

How effective is online counselling?

Scholarly systematic reviews have shown that counselling delivered via videoconferencing is as effective as counselling delivered in-person and that recipients of telecounselling report no differences in (a) the credibility of services delivered, and (b) the satisfaction of services received (see references below).

I am well practiced in delivering counselling sessions in an online format and have completed 12 hours of additional training covering telepsychology best practices.
